The Oakley Finisher Stage has put an end to the 13th edition of the Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN after six days of competition, 339 kilometres and almost 9,500 metres of climbing. The stage, which started and finished in Córdoba, in the Asomadilla Park, race through the mythical ascent of El Arrastraculos as the highlight of the route.
Wout Alleman and Fabian Rabensteiner (Wilier Pirelly Factory) gave the final blow to the race by winning the Oakley Finisher Stage and taking an overall victory that was already well on track before the last stage. "Except for the first day, the rest of the week has been perfect for us, and we are very happy. In the last two days our aim was keep the control the race a little bit, always being between the first two couple teams, but without taking too many risks, and in the end we were able to achieve the victory".
The final stage followed a very similar script to yesterday's Skoda Super Stage. Leaders Alleman and Rabensteiner, who have been the strongest throughout the race, once again took control of the stage alongside Enrique Morcillo and Hugo Drechou (BUFF®-Megamo Team). Both teams repeated the same finish as yesterday in the Asomadilla Park, but this time the leaders have not forgiven and have added a new stage victory. In this way, Alleman and Rabensteiner close this edition of Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN with four partial victories and the victory in the general classification.
The second position achieved by Morcillo and Drechou has also helped them to finish second in the general classification. In the fight for the podium, Italians Francesco Failli and Riccardo Chiarini (Taddei Factory Team) took third overall after finishing third in the Oakley Finisher Stage.
Katazina Sosna and Irina Luetzelschwab (Team Torpado BULLS Swiss) also managed to hold on to the lead, taking second place in the Oakley Finisher Stage to win the 13th Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN. Lejla Njemcevic and Stefanie Dohrn (Canyon Allebike) went out on the last stage looking to make a move in the general classification, but Sosna and Luetzelschwab were able to control the gap and take the final victory. "On the descent we reduced the gap to Njemcevic and Dohrn and on the last section we pushed as hard as we could because they were winning the stage, but we were taking the lead, and that was the most important thing for us".
The victory achieved in the last stage by Njemcevic and Dohrn helped them to consolidate their second position in the general classification, while Janina Wüst and Txell Figueras (BUFF®-Megamo Team) finished in third position and completed the podium.
With the satisfaction of all the participants, this 13th edition of the Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN comes to an end. The organizers would like to thank all those who have made this edition possible, starting with the 700 participants who took the first start, as without them it would not have been possible.
We would also like to thank the support of the sponsors, institutions, security forces, volunteers from Jaén and Córdoba, the Junta de Andalucía, teams and all the people who make it possible for us to continue celebrating the Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN every year.
