The twelfth edition of the Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN have it’s new champions

Lüthi and Wakefield certify their final win with the fifth stage under their name, meanwhile Seewald and Stosek do the same with a third place in the Oakley Finisher Stage

The Oakley Finisher Stage put an end to the twelfth edition of the Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN. An edition with 358km and 11.156 m that crowned Martin Stosek and the World Champion, Andreas Seewald, as new champions of the competition. The third spot was enough to certify their victory after getting three stages and getting on the podium three other times.

Consistency has been the best ally for the strongest couple of the twelfth edition. Today, with the gap they had accumulated in the five past stages, they were able to dose themselves and secure the final win.

“It wasn’t easy at all, the pace was very high. We wanted to be consistent and we managed to do it. We controlled the race from the first day, we haven’t had any problems physically or technically, so it was perfect”, said the winners after wearing the white champions jersey.

The victory in the Oakley Finisher Stage was for Martin Frey and Simon Stiebjhan, from the Singer Racing Team. The German team managed to open up a gap after the second feed zone, in a fast downhill. The breakaway was responded by the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira and the Cordovan Miguel Muñoz, who finished in second position.

In the women’s category, the overall winners decided to go for another totally different strategy. From the first day they started attacking and they did it until the last day, in the last stage, where they came out to not speculate.

“The best way to defend yourself is to go out and attack and that’s what we did. We’re very happy about this victory, it was very hard and it even felt very long sometimes. We pushed to the limit a lot of times”, Lüthi and Wakefield confessed.

So, the twelfth edition of the Andalucía Bike Race by GARMIN crowned it’s new champions that, after the award ceremony, revealed their intentions of coming back the following year to defend the title.

Big thanks to every single one that made this edition possible, starting from the hundreds of participants. Without them, this wouldn’t have been possible.
