Another change in the overall standings at the Andalucía Bike Race by Garmin during Stage 4. David Valero and Marc Stutzmann bounced back from yesterday’s puncture to take victory in a fast-paced stage in Jaén. Meanwhile, Natalia Fischer and Claudia Peretti of Extremadura Ecopilas once again delivered a commanding performance, extending their lead to nearly 10 minutes over the second-placed team.
In the Elite Men category, Klimatiza Orbea Team finally converted their dominance in Jaén into a stage win, placing two pairs on the podium. David Valero and Marc Stutzmann stopped the clock at 1:50:44, securing a margin of more than three minutes over the second-, third-, and fourth-placed teams, who crossed the line together with just three seconds separating the three duos. With this result, the Klimatiza Orbea pair regained the overall lead lost the previous day.
In Elite Women, Extremadura Ecopilas once again demonstrated their strength with a second consecutive victory. Natalia Fischer and Claudia Peretti gained nearly six minutes over their closest rivals thanks to their winning time of 2:16:29, controlling the stage from start to finish. They dominated from the very first kilometre and kept their competitors at bay throughout.
Stage 4 in Jaén covered a very intense and fast 47-kilometre route with 1,300 metres of elevation gain. The first half of the race featured wide tracks, irregular ramps and gradients reaching up to 10%. This was followed by narrow, flowing singletracks, rocky sections, linked corners and fast descents, finishing once again at the Olivo Arena. A journey through the landscapes of Jaén that delighted amateurs while pushing professionals to their limits.
The men’s podium saw David Valero and Marc Stutzmann (Klimatiza Orbea Team) take the top step, joined by Gianantonio Mazzola and Davide Foccoli, with Klimatiza Orbea Team completing the podium this time through Luis Francisco Pérez and Samuele Porro. In the women’s race, Adelheid Morath and Sandra Mairhofer of LeeCougan-Basso finished second, while Mónica Calderón and Tessa Kortekaas of Massi ISB Sport claimed third place.
The Andalucía Bike Race now moves to Córdoba for its final two stages. Avenida Al-Nasir will host the start of the Škoda Super Stage: 77 kilometres and 1,600 metres of elevation gain in the toughest and most demanding stage of this edition. The route heads towards the Guadalmellato canal and links with the climb of Vereda de la Canchuela up to Trasierra. In the upper section, riders will face continuous ups and downs along the Arenales tracks, Las Jaras and the Golf Club area, combining fast rolling sections with very flowing singletracks. The return to Córdoba comes via the descents of Los Morales and Santo Domingo, before finishing in Parque de la Asomadilla after a fast final stretch.
