The 10th edition will have a solidarity challenge

A team from BMD Association will participate in the competition to raise funds in favor of road safety education program

Aware that every week a cyclist dies on Spanish roads, an amateur team of 12 cyclists from the BMD Association and committed to social action will participate in the tenth edition of the Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén. The objective is to raise funds in favor of STOP Accidents and develop awareness and road safety education projects.

Its purpose is to complete a total of 360 solidarity kilometers and 11,500 meters of ascent to raise awareness of bicycle accidents on the road. In this way, during 2019 a cyclist died on the road every week.

This will be the third solidarity challenge promoted by the BMD Association. In the previous two, they managed to raise 30,000€: in 2018 they completed the Titan Desert in Morocco to help a girl who suffers from a rare disease, and in 2019, in the Cape Epic in South Africa, the proceeds went to a social program with Bicycles Without Borders for a project in Senegal.  Now, it’s the turn of Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén, the first stage race in Spain with the highest distinction, the Hors Catégorie.

On this occasion, the objective of this new BMD Association challenge, together with STOP Accidents, is to raise awareness among all citizens, so that drivers and cyclists are respected on the road, to reduce accidents and thus avoiding tragedies that we can usually read in the media.

"Cycling along with some of the best riders of the world and doing it through one of the most beautiful places on the planet, surrounded by nature and in good company is a real prize for us," says Gonzalo de Benito from the BMD Association team. “But the real success is demonstrating how through the values of sport, we can help to build a better society and raise funds to launch education cycling projects and reduce accidents", he adds.

As in the previous challenges in which BMD Association has managed to raise 30,000€ for solidarity purposes, this time, in addition to company contributions, the team has launched a crowdfunding platform (accessible from this link) whose collection will be used to fund awareness and road education programs that will be launched by STOP Accidents association. The association consist of accident victims and it works every day to prevent road violence and to promote the culture of road safety in society, a problem which we are all exposed and its solution is in everyone's hands.
