Sally Bigham: “It’s a good, hard race that is well organized with technical trails”

The British is the most successful cyclist in our race. On up to four occasions, Bigham managed to take the final victory and with different pairs. We talked to her about these victories, the memories of this race and much more. We talked to Sally Bigham

You are the first woman to win this race, with Kristine Noergaard, what do you remember from that victory?

I remember the trails and how much fun they were, the sunshine in Córdoba and the snow in the mountains. I remember enjoying also the hotel in Córdoba, the massage and sitting out on the grass in the sunshine after the stages. I also remember having a huge appetite and ordering pizza and pasta to our hotel room before bed! I can also remember celebrating at the end of race party too. Finally, I recall making a good friend in my partner and sharing some incredibly moments together while racing in Andalucía.

Besides, you are the contestant with the most wins in all the categories.

It tells me that I enjoyed the race so much that I returned four times and fought hard to win the women’s title. Andalucía Bike Race was an important part of my season preparation and it helped me to get the shape I needed for the rest of the year. It was also nice to spend some days racing in the warm weather and seeing the landscape of Andalucía. I can still smell the orange groves.

What made you come back in many occasions?

The organization was really good, the trails were fun and I loved the warm weather racing early in the year.

To all the amateurs’ cyclists from outside Spain, what would you tell them about this race? How would you define it?

It’s a good, hard race that is well organized with technical trails. It’s a great way to prepare for the upcoming season and to enjoy some winter sunshine and time wearing shorts! The race provides variety with the short punchy climbs and technical descents in Córdoba and the long mountain climbs in Jaen.

Will we ever see you again in the Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén?

I am retired form professional racing but you’ve reminded me how much I loved this race and made me wonder if I should return once more!
