The names that have make history of Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén

This race has welcomed and enjoyed illustrious names of this sport.

In the first edition of Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén we could sense the spectacular level of this race, since it was the Czech couple formed by Kristian Hynek and Pavel Boudny who won the 2011 general in the men's category, as well as Sally Bigham and Kristine Nørgaard in women. Of course, it was not easy, since Hynek and Boudny had as rivals the couples formed by José Antonio Hermida and Ralph Näf or Alejandro Díaz de la Peña and Luis Leao Pinto.

In the 2012 edition were the duo of Multivan-Merida, formed by José Antonio Hermida and Rudi Van Houts, who were awarded the men's general after winning three stages. Behind, Hannes Genze and Andreas Kugler went out of their way to compete the race. In the women's category the victory fell back on Sally Bigham, but with a new partner. Together with Milena Landtwing they were able to impose both in 2012 and 2013.

It is precisely in that year, in 2013, when the name of the Austrian Alban Lakata, triple XCM World Champion, along with Robert Mennen begins to stand out in the medal winners. Both were crowned, ahead of Markus Kaufmann - Jochen Käss and Thomas Litscher with Ondrej Cink.

It was not until 2014 when Andújar premiered as the official venue of the event.  A year where highlighted by the most international ever edition. Thus, the couple formed by Markus Kaufmann and Jochen Käss won the general after winning four stages. In the women's category the situation was totally different, since two Spanish cyclists, Sandra Santanyes and Clàudia Galicia won the general after three consecutive victories for Sally Bigham.

In 2015, Alban Lakata, as he did in 2013, won the overall victory with Kristian Hynek again. Behind, David Rosa and Tiago Ferreira complicated the first place of the podium. Regarding the women's category, Esther Süss and Milena Landtwing took the final victory, despite the hard opposition of the couples formed by Tanja Zakelj with Clàudia Galicia and Githa Michiels with Alice Pirard.

And in the last edition disputed by couples, in 2016, we saw one of the editions with the best level. Tiago Ferreira and Periklis Ilias had nothing simple to take to the general, since both Alban Lakata with Kristian Hynek, as well as David Valero with Pablo Rodríguez sold the victory very expensive. In the women's category, Sally Bigham returned for her privileges and won her fourth Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén, this time with Katrin Leumann.

In 2017 it was the first time that competed individually. That was when Tiago Ferreira, winner in pairs in 2016, won the triplet with two consecutive victories. Brazilian Raiza Goulaö, meanwhile, won after four stage victories against Karen Brouwer, Elena Gaddoni or Hildegunn Hovdenak.

The Norwegian Hildegunn Hovdenak has been the main leader in the last two editions when she is imposed consecutively in 2018 and 2019 against rivals such as Naima M. Diesner, Chloe Woodruff or Natalia Fischer. And as for the men category, however, the last edition had David Valero as the main protagonist when dethroning the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira, which was second.

What will the tenth edition bring us? We still don't know, but what is clear is that seeing the list of names that have given luster and level to this race, the poster will be unbeatable.
